Monaco is among the destinations benefiting from an exodus of wealthy individuals from Britain, as another of the UK’s biggest taxpayers prepares to leave amid changes to the country’s tax regime…
As reported by The Times in London, billionaire hedge fund founder Chris Rokos is switching his residency to Greece. His departure follows a series of moves by prominent business figures, including Checkout.com founder Guillaume Pousaz, who has relocated to Monaco, while billionaire property investors Ian and Richard Livingstone have also moved their residency from Britain to the Principality.
Rokos, founder of Rokos Capital Management, has an estimated fortune of £2.6 billion and was ranked Britain’s third-highest taxpayer in The Sunday Times Tax List 2026, paying £330 million last year. His investment firm manages around $20 billion and employs more than 370 people.
The departures come after Britain abolished its longstanding non-dom tax regime and changed the treatment of overseas income and inheritance.
Other wealthy figures leaving include steel billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, who has moved to Dubai, and Egyptian businessman Nassef Sawiris. Goldman Sachs banker Richard Gnodde has relocated to Milan.
Greece and Italy have meanwhile introduced tax arrangements designed to attract wealthy foreign residents.
The British government maintains that the UK remains highly attractive to international talent and investment, citing its capital markets, universities, skilled workforce and what it describes as a competitive and stable tax system.
