AS Monaco came from behind to secure a 1–1 draw against Lille OSC at the Stade Louis-II on Sunday, October 25, after Edan Diop’s second-half equaliser cancelled out Ethan Mbappé’s early opener in a Ligue 1 encounter that saw the visitors reduced to ten men.
The result followed Monaco’s 1–0 defeat away to Lorient the previous weekend, with Filipe Luís’s side looking to return to winning ways in front of their home supporters. Lille, meanwhile, arrived in the Principality seeking points in a closely contested battle near the top of the French championship.
The visitors took the lead in the 24th minute when Ethan Mbappé found the net following an assist from Soriba Diaoune. Monaco were forced to respond after falling behind, but Lille defended their advantage through the remainder of the first half.

The contest shifted in Monaco’s favour in the 66th minute when Lille defender Tanguy Nianzou received a red card, leaving the visitors to negotiate the closing stages with ten players.
Monaco capitalised on their numerical advantage eight minutes later. Jordan Teze provided the assist for Diop, who scored in the 74th minute to bring the hosts level and set up a tense finish at the Stade Louis-II.
The Principality side pressed for a winner but could not find a decisive second goal. The final statistics highlighted Monaco’s attacking initiative, with the hosts recording 16 shots, including six on target, compared with Lille’s four attempts and two on target. Monaco also enjoyed 58% possession and completed 530 passes, with an accuracy of 89%.
Despite their numerical advantage in the closing stages, Monaco had to settle for a point. The draw nevertheless demonstrated the side’s ability to respond after falling behind, although the missed opportunity to claim all three points will leave them looking for a stronger return in their next league fixture.
Monaco will now turn their attention to their upcoming trip to Paris FC on Sunday, November 1, seeking to build on the late response against Lille and regain momentum in Ligue 1.
