The Hôtel Métropole Monte-Carlo has a new leader taking the helm, with the property announcing on Tuesday, September 8, the appointment of Laurent Herschbach as its new General Manager.
Herschbach succeeds Klaus Kabelitz, who oversaw the transition through the high season before returning to London.
Herschbach brings with him a notable background at the Ritz Paris, where he built an exemplary career that began at the front desk before he eventually rose to become the property’s General Manager. He will bring that depth of luxury hospitality experience and operational expertise to one of Monaco’s most iconic addresses when he officially takes up his new role on October 1.
Herschbach inherits a property with deep roots in the Principality’s history. Built in 1886 on land once owned by Pope Leo XIII, the Hôtel Métropole rose to prominence during the Belle Époque, quickly becoming one of the most sought-after addresses on the Côte d’Azur among European aristocracy and the international elite. After a period of decline through the mid-20th century, the hotel was acquired by Lebanese developer Nabil Boustany in the 1980s and given a significant renovation, before undergoing a further, more extensive transformation in 2004 under celebrated French designer Jacques Garcia, whose work reimagined the property’s 125 rooms and suites while preserving its Belle Époque character.
Today, the hotel is known for gastronomy as much as its heritage, home to the twice-Michelin-starred restaurant Les Ambassadeurs, led by Executive Chef Christophe Cussac, alongside the Karl Lagerfeld-designed Odyssey pool and a Guerlain spa that opened in 2025. Located in the heart of the Carré d’Or, just steps from Place du Casino, the Métropole remains one of the few grand hotels in Monaco to operate independently of the Société des Bains de Mer group, a distinction that has helped shape its reputation for privacy and discretion within the Principality’s luxury hospitality scene.
