Rafael Nadal will not participate at the Monte Carlo Open tennis tournament.

Speaking via social media, he said: “Unfortunately, I am not able to play at one of my most beloved tournaments because I have not yet recovered from an injury. In the meantime, I’m working my comeback.”

Nadal is the record-holder in victories at the Rolex Masters, Monte-Carlo Open. He has won the tournament eleven times since his debut in 2005.

A few hours after Rafael Nadal his compatriot Carlos Alcaraz also announced that he will not participate in the Rolex Masters. He has been suffering from a hand injury since the semi-final which he lost at the tournament in Miami last week. The current No. 2 seed in the ATP rankings won the Indian Wells tournament last month and was seen as one of the favourites for the coming tournament in Monte-Carlo.
