Princess Charlene paid a personal visit to the Société Monégasque d’Assainissement (SMA) on Friday, November 6, to thank the employees responsible for keeping Monaco’s streets clean and maintaining the Principality’s high standards of public hygiene…

As reported by Monaco-Matin, the Princess requested an informal meeting with staff at the company’s headquarters, taking time to speak with workers and learn about the equipment and vehicles used in their daily operations.

Addressing employees, she expressed her gratitude for their dedication, discretion and efficiency, recognising their contribution to Monaco’s quality of life. SMA Director General Pierre Bardy welcomed the visit, highlighting the often unseen work undertaken before residents wake or after they have gone to bed.

The company employs approximately 350 people representing ten nationalities, providing street cleaning, waste collection and treatment services throughout the year, including during major events such as the Monaco Grand Prix.

The visit also drew attention to the importance of respecting public spaces and those responsible for maintaining them, particularly amid recent concerns about antisocial behaviour and littering.

Princess Charlene joined employees for photographs, wearing an SMA safety vest, which she subsequently signed as a memento of the occasion.
