With a mandatory quarantine in place, it will not be possible for visitors from France or Monaco to take holidays in Italy between December 21 and January 6 without submitting to a 14-day quarantine.
However, there is a 36-hour transit window in place that will allow for day trips and single overnight stays for EU citizens and Monaco residents. That period is extended to 120 hours (five days) in the case of professional, emergency or health reasons.
Italians who want to visit the French side of the border will have to submit to a 14-day quarantine on their return home, and there is no leeway in the rules allowing brief visits. The loss of Italian visitors over the winter holiday season will seriously dent revenues along the Riviera.

Travel between the regions of Italy has also been prohibited, a move that will have a major impact on families living in different parts of the country.
Meanwhile, it is expected that in France inter-regional travel restrictions will be lifted on December 15, when the French authorities will announce possible changes to the current restrictions.
