The Prince’s Palace and the Yacht Club of Monaco will be illuminated in blue to mark World Maritime Day, an annual event organised by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) on Thursday, September 26. This year’s theme, “Navigating into the future: safety first!” aligns with the 50th anniversary of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), highlighting the critical importance of maritime safety, security, and environmental protection.
As part of the global celebration, a symposium on extreme maritime conditions, organised in partnership with the World Meteorological Organisation, will take place, with Monaco actively participating as an IMO member.
Since 2021, IMO has encouraged Member States and organisations to light up iconic sites in blue, raising public awareness of the essential role maritime transport plays globally. Monaco’s decision to illuminate the Prince’s Palace and the Yacht Club reflects its ongoing commitment to the maritime community and the preservation of the seas.
