On Saturday, September 21, Namebay, a domain registration, web hosting service, and ICANN accredited Registrar based in Monaco fell victim to a ransomware cyberattack. Following the attack, an immediate investigation was launched to assess the scope of the breach. Namebay’s security teams, along with CERT cybersecurity experts and a crisis management unit, are working tirelessly to restore affected services as quickly as possible.
As a result of the attack, several services including hosted emails, web hosting, and API services have been disrupted. Namebay’s teams are focused on restoring these services, though there is currently no estimated timeline for when normal operations will resume.
Despite the disruption, critical services such as DNS, domain renewals, and RDAP remain operational. Customers can still register domains and make zone modifications through the customer service team.
Investigations are also underway to determine if any data exfiltration occurred during the attack. Namebay has committed to keeping customers informed with timely updates and expresses sincere regret for the inconvenience caused. The company assures clients that resolving the crisis is their top priority.
Further updates will be provided as the situation evolves.
