Late-night travelers between Nice and Ventimiglia are in for a long winter, as the SNCF has announced that trains will be a no-go from 21:00 to 06:00, Sunday through Thursday, starting September 15 and lasting all the way until June 26, 2025.

This railway silence is brought to you by two major projects: the reinforcement of the Saint-Laurent tunnel in Eze and the renewal of electrical equipment supporting the catenaries between Nice and Menton. These dated back to 1969, with SNCF explaining that this kind of upgrade happens once every 50 years. The total cost of the overhaul stands at a cool 20 million euros.

But that’s not all, SNCF is also taking the opportunity to tackle a few additional tweaks while the tracks are clear, turning these nighttime hours into a construction frenzy. Commuters, take note, it’s time to find a new way home after dark.
