AS Monaco star striker and captain Wissam Ben Yedder has been charged with rape, attempted rape and sexual assault alongside his younger brother, prosecutors in Nice say. He appeared in court in Nice on Thursday.

Two females, aged 19 and 20, accused the 32 year-old Monaco forward and French international of rape and sexual aggression on Monday, July 10, at an address in neighbouring Beausoleil during a party.

A bail of €900,000 (£775,000) has been requested and Ben Yedder has been placed under judicial supervision pending his trial.

Despite the ongoing situation, Ben Yedder was present at training on the morning of Friday, August 11, ahead of the Principality side’s season-opening match against Clermont on Sunday.

A key component of the team, Ben Yedder has netted 98 goals in 167 games for Monaco since joining the club for 35 million euros in 2019. He scored 19 goals for Monaco last season, and is under contract with the club until the end of the upcoming 2023/24 season.
