Sixteen young players from the Monaco Rugby Federation swapped their training ground for the SPA Monaco animal shelter, spending a morning learning about animal welfare and supporting the charity’s work…

The under-12 squad, currently preparing for the Sainte Dévote rugby tournament in March 2027, arrived with a practical donation: a motorised wheelbarrow to help shelter staff transport bedding, move heavy materials and maintain the surrounding grounds.

During their visit, the youngsters met the shelter’s carers, explored the facilities and spent time with the resident cats and dogs. The experience offered an opportunity to understand the responsibilities involved in caring for abandoned animals and the importance of responsible adoption.

The initiative also reflects the longstanding relationship between Monaco Rugby and the SPA, two organisations sharing the patronage of Princess Charlene.

Located in Peille since September 2024, the shelter continues to provide temporary homes for animals awaiting adoption. Twelve dogs found new families last month, although 36 dogs and nearly 30 cats remain in its care.

Anyone interested in meeting the animals or exploring adoption opportunities can visit the SPA Monaco shelter daily between 2pm and 5pm, without an appointment.
