Monaco’s Valentin Vacherot advanced to the last 16 of the Swiss Indoors Basel on Monday, October 26, after overcoming Argentina’s Mariano Navone 6-3, 7-6(4) in a hard-fought opening-round encounter.

The Monegasque needed approximately two hours to secure the victory, with the second set providing the biggest test. Navone established a 3-0 lead before moving ahead 5-2, putting Vacherot under pressure and threatening to force a deciding set.

Vacherot responded with a determined comeback, recovering the deficit before taking control of the tie-break. He maintained his composure to win it 7-4, completing the straight-sets victory and booking his place in the next round.

The result gives Vacherot a positive start at the ATP 500 tournament, where he will now prepare for another challenging encounter as the competition progresses.

His next opponent will be either Chilean Alejandro Tabilo or Spain’s Rafael Jódar, who are scheduled to meet in their opening-round match. The winner will face Vacherot in the round of 16, with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.

The Swiss Indoors Basel runs until November 1, giving Vacherot the opportunity to build on his opening performance and pursue a deeper run on the indoor hard courts.
