Charles Leclerc delivered another impressive performance for Ferrari at the United States Grand Prix on Sunday, October 25, fighting his way from fourth on the grid to second place after a series of battles with Max Verstappen and Lando Norris at the Circuit of the Americas.

The Monegasque driver secured his second consecutive runner-up finish, crossing the line 13.078 seconds behind race winner Kimi Antonelli, who claimed his ninth victory of the season for Mercedes. Verstappen completed the podium for Red Bull, while Leclerc’s Ferrari teammate Lewis Hamilton finished fourth.

Leclerc had shown encouraging pace throughout the weekend, topping Friday’s second practice session before qualifying fourth for Sunday’s 56-lap race. Ferrari arrived in Austin with upgrades to its car, raising hopes of a competitive showing against Mercedes and Red Bull.

The Monegasque made an aggressive start, moving ahead of Verstappen during the opening lap before the Dutchman reclaimed the position. With Antonelli establishing an early advantage at the front, Leclerc remained firmly involved in the battle for the remaining podium places.

Strategy played an important role as the race developed. Ferrari committed to a two-stop approach, while Mercedes opted to keep Antonelli out for an extended opening stint before switching to hard tyres for the remainder of the Grand Prix.

The decision proved effective for the Italian, who maintained control of the race while his rivals battled behind. Leclerc, meanwhile, used his Ferrari’s pace to recover ground and challenge Verstappen again during the closing stages.

After a series of exchanges involving Norris and Verstappen, Leclerc eventually overtook the Red Bull driver to secure second place. His late charge ensured another valuable podium for Ferrari, although Antonelli remained out of reach.

A Virtual Safety Car period shortly before the finish, triggered by Valtteri Bottas stopping his Cadillac, briefly neutralised the race. Antonelli nevertheless crossed the line with a comfortable advantage, while Leclerc held on to second ahead of Verstappen.

The Monegasque’s performance also earned him the Formula 1 Driver of the Day award, voted for by fans, recognising his attacking drive and determined recovery through the field.

Ferrari enjoyed a productive afternoon, with Hamilton finishing just behind Verstappen in fourth. The two drivers collected a combined 30 points for the Italian team, strengthening its position in the constructors’ championship as the season approaches its conclusion.

Behind the leading quartet, reigning world champion Lando Norris finished fifth for McLaren, followed by Isack Hadjar in sixth and Oscar Piastri in seventh. George Russell endured a more difficult afternoon for Mercedes, finishing eighth after receiving a five-second penalty for gaining an advantage off the track.

Antonelli’s victory leaves the 20-year-old on the verge of securing his first Formula 1 world championship. The Mercedes driver now requires just two additional points to guarantee the title, meaning a ninth-place finish at the next Grand Prix in Mexico City would be sufficient regardless of his rivals’ results.

For Leclerc, the Austin podium provides further encouragement following Ferrari’s recent improvements. The team’s latest upgrades appear to have helped its competitiveness, with the Monegasque expressing optimism about the direction of development despite acknowledging that Mercedes held the strategic advantage in Texas.

With the championship moving to Mexico City next weekend, Leclerc will be aiming to maintain his recent momentum and challenge for another podium, while Antonelli has an opportunity to become the youngest world champion in Formula 1 history.
