The Swiss authorities have seized assets worth over $113 million on the bank accounts of companies belonging to fugitive Ukrainian oligarch Kostyantyn Zhevago, according to the Kyiv Post newspaper, citing the Ukrainian State Bureau of Investigations (SBI). The SBI cooperates with the Swiss judicial system to return frozen assets to Ukraine.
Zhevago stands accused of stealing assets from Finance and Credit Bank, which he formerly owned, causing its collapse in 2015 and the loss of savings of thousands of clients.
Zhevago was arrested on the basis of an international warrant issued by Ukraine in Courcheval in December, while on holiday and is fighting extradition with the help of a high-powered international legal team.
In related news, on May 16 Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau and Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Officen detained the President of the Supreme Court Vsevolod Kniaziev under suspicion of receiving a $2..7 million bribe from Zhevago for approving a Court decision favouring Zhevago’s Ferrexpo company.
