A total of fifty-three vehicles were stopped and impounded by the Police during the recent Top Marques event as part of a crackdown on irresponsible driving.
The figure the last time the event was held was 101.
Most of the offences involved speeding or driving without due care and attention. Some drivers were stopped for making too much noise, particularly in the Louis II tunnel. Other hotspots were the Fairmont hairpin, Portier, avenue Princesse-Grace and Spélugues.
Each car was escorted to the Fontvieille marquee and impounded for 120 hours.
Police officers said they were on the lookout for offending drivers until 02:30 in the morning, until the streets were empty.
