After another victory on Sunday, this time a 0-3 win away to Bordeaux and Monaco’s fourth in a row, Manager Niko Kovac outlined how he expects the season to end.
But first he thanked the ASM players: “I would like to take my hat off to my players who have performed well. We did our job and fourth place is now sealed.”
He said there are many possibilities for the team, which could finish on the podium when the season closes.
“If we can go higher, why not? We will do everything to achieve this. What matters to me today is to recognize the performance of my players — I am very proud of their progress.”
However, he was realistic about taking first spot in France’s Ligue 1, saying that Lille will secure the title if they don’t drop any points. He pointed out that ASM are currently in third place and still in the competition for the Coupe de France.
In Sunday’s game, which Monaco dominated from the start, goals came from Kevin Volland (29′), Gelson Martins (47′) and Stevan Jovetic (90′).
The Monegasques were victorious after a one sided 90 minutes, but have little time to celebrate as they will face off against Lyon in the quarter final of the French Cup on Wednesday, April 21.
