Valentin Vacherot has continued his impressive run at the Swiss Indoors Basel, defeating Denmark’s Holger Rune in three sets on Friday, October 30 to secure a place in the tournament’s semi-finals.

The Monégasque produced a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory in the quarter-final, overcoming the former world number four in a demanding encounter to move one step closer to the Basel final.

Vacherot made a strong start, taking the opening set 6-3, but Rune responded in the second to level the contest with an identical scoreline. The deciding set once again went Vacherot’s way, with the 27-year-old maintaining his composure to close out the match.

The victory adds another significant scalp to Vacherot’s Basel campaign. He had previously beaten Spain’s Rafael Jódar in a three-set thriller to reach the last eight, saving the best of his tennis for the decisive moments.

Vacherot now advances to the semi-finals, where he will face the winner of the quarter-final between American Taylor Fritz and Frenchman Arthur Fils.

After his breakthrough success in Shanghai last year, the Monégasque continues to demonstrate his ability to compete against some of the biggest names on the ATP Tour.
