As renovation work continues at the stadium during the summer, the Green Monaco association has teamed up with Barbajuans Monaco to ensure that nearly 4,500 seats are reused rather than discarded. The project, supported by the Prince’s Government and coordinated with the stadium management, the Department of Public Works and construction company NGE, reflects Monaco’s commitment to the circular economy.
Hundreds of seats have already been donated to sports facilities in Drap, La Trinité and Menton, while 200 were distributed to members of the AS Monaco Supporters’ Club. The Monegasque Athletics Federation has also received seats for its facilities.
The largest donation has seen 2,800 seats transported to the Stadio Comunale in Sanremo, where they will improve spectator comfort and strengthen ties between Monaco and Italian football. The partnership grew from discussions between Green Monaco and officials from Sanremese, whose family-friendly stadium lacked permanent seating in parts of the ground.
Further phases of the Stade Louis II renovation will see additional seating replaced, with organisers hoping more of the stadium’s distinctive yellow seats will continue to find new homes rather than ending up as waste.
