A French Riviera technology company is preparing to transform maritime logistics, with Flyde set to launch drone deliveries to boats at sea from August 1…
Following successful test flights from the breakwater at Monaco’s Port Hercule, the Roquebrune-Cap-Martin-based start-up will initially operate from the Port de Golfe-Juan, delivering packages to pleasure boats anchored up to 10 kilometres offshore. Anything weighing up to eight kilograms can be transported, from groceries and flowers to urgent medicines and other everyday essentials.
The service is designed to replace the traditional system, where crew members travel by tender to collect supplies delivered to the harbour. Using fully electric drones, deliveries can be made more quickly than conventional methods while producing no direct emissions, offering both environmental and operational benefits.
Flyde says its service is intended to complement, rather than replace, existing maritime logistics providers. Supply agents will be able to book deliveries through a dedicated online platform, with the drones completing the final stage of the journey directly to vessels at sea.
Founder Pierre Deyris and his five-person team have secured the necessary operating authorisation for Golfe-Juan and hope to expand the service to Monaco and other Mediterranean ports in the near future. Their ambitions will receive a further boost in September, when Flyde joins MonacoTech, the Principality’s start-up incubator, as it looks to grow its innovative delivery network across the Mediterranean.
