Work to modernise and brighten Fontvieille Shopping Centre is continuing this summer as Monaco begins the first phase of a major €4 million refurbishment programme ahead of the site’s long-term redevelopment…

The interim beautification project, which began in June and was designed by the architectural practice TAG, aims to create a lighter, more contemporary environment whilst ensuring the centre remains fully open to shoppers throughout the works.

According to the Department of State Property, the renovation focuses on three key elements: replacing ceilings, upgrading lighting and installing new wall coverings. Much of the construction is taking place overnight to minimise disruption to retailers and visitors.

In the central area outside the hypermarket, where the ceilings are significantly higher, a temporary mezzanine is being installed to allow contractors to work safely overhead without restricting access to shops below. Existing suspended ceilings and lighting have already been removed, with cabling and infrastructure now being prepared for the new installations.

Officials say visitors will begin to notice more visible changes by the end of the summer as decorative ceiling features and new wall finishes are installed, transforming the appearance of the centre.

The project is intended to enhance the shopping experience in the short term while preparations continue for the more comprehensive restructuring of the Fontvieille commercial district in the years ahead.
