The Monaco Yacht Club has taken another step in modernising its marina infrastructure by installing a new generation of hydraulic mooring dampers designed to improve safety and comfort for vessels.
The system, known as Seadamp, has been installed on part of the marina as part of the club’s broader initiative, Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting, which promotes technological innovation and more sustainable practices within the yachting industry.
These hydraulic dampers are designed to absorb the forces generated by waves and water movement, helping to stabilise moored yachts and reduce strain on mooring lines. According to developers, the technology can reduce peak loads on mooring systems by as much as 90 percent. Trials in other Mediterranean marinas have also shown significant benefits, including improved anchor stability, reduced pontoon movement and smoother conditions for crews on board during rough weather.
The technology was developed by the Italian company Seares, which previously participated in the Yacht Club’s Smart Marina programme aimed at identifying innovative maritime solutions.
Each Seadamp unit is equipped with sensors that monitor tension on mooring lines in real time. The data is transmitted to a digital dashboard, allowing marina operators to monitor berth conditions continuously and receive alerts if stress levels exceed predefined limits. Over time, the information collected can also help port managers better understand usage patterns and anticipate maintenance needs.
The system is designed to operate independently from external power sources by converting the movement of waves into energy to run its onboard electronics.
For Seares CEO Giorgio Cucè, the partnership represents an opportunity to deploy the technology in one of the most demanding yachting environments in the world. He noted that working with the Monaco Yacht Club provides a valuable platform to refine data-driven mooring solutions while improving safety and environmental performance in modern marinas.
By introducing this technology, the Monaco Yacht Club continues its efforts to position Monaco at the forefront of innovation in the global yachting sector, combining cutting-edge infrastructure with a growing focus on sustainability and operational efficiency.
