Monaco officially stepped into the festive season on Thursday evening as His Serene Highness Prince Albert II and HSH Princess Charlene, accompanied by Hereditary Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, switched on the city’s Christmas illuminations from the towering tree in Place du Marché, La Condamine….

The ceremony unfolded in a warm, celebratory atmosphere in the presence of Mayor Georges Marsan, members of the Municipal Council and the Principality’s senior authorities, with families and residents gathering to share the moment. As the countdown reached its finale, the grand tree lit up in a cascade of white and golden light, drawing smiles and applause from the crowd and officially signalling the start of Monaco’s year-end festivities.

With the flip of a switch, shimmering decorations were revealed across every district of the city-state, from the harbourfront to the historic streets of Monaco-Ville. Streets, squares and public spaces are now dressed in sparkling garlands, animated displays and festive installations designed to transform the Principality into a winter showcase throughout December.

The illumination ceremony has become a cherished tradition in Monaco, symbolising not only the beginning of the Christmas season but also a moment of shared community spirit. For many families, it marks the first official outing of the festive calendar, ushering in weeks of markets, concerts, performances and seasonal celebrations.

As the lights glowed across La Condamine and beyond, the evening captured the magic of the season: a blend of tradition, togetherness and anticipation, setting the tone for Monaco’s celebrations as the Principality heads into the most festive time of the year.
