The Ballets de Monte-Carlo marked its 40th anniversary with an emotional reunion at the Grimaldi Forum, where around 150 former dancers gathered alongside Her Royal Highness the Princess of Hanover, President of the company, and Artistic Director Jean-Christophe Maillot…
Founded in 1985 and officially launched in 1986, the company has welcomed nearly 500 dancers from around the world over the past four decades. Many returned to Monaco to celebrate the institution that helped shape their careers, reflecting on its remarkable artistic journey from its early classical roots under Pierre Lacotte to its international acclaim under Maillot’s leadership.
Since taking the helm in 1993, Maillot has transformed the company into one of the world’s leading contemporary ballet ensembles, creating 46 original works. For the anniversary gala, he devised a special programme intended as a heartfelt tribute to Princess Caroline, whose unwavering support has been instrumental in the company’s success.
The evening was filled with performances, reunions and heartfelt tributes, with Princess Caroline visibly moved by the celebration. Speaking afterwards, she said the occasion had been full of wonderful surprises and emotional moments, adding that seeing so many former dancers together again was a reminder that the company’s achievements had only been possible thanks to the extraordinary artists who brought its vision to life.
