Few relationships capture the glamour of Monaco quite like that of Princess Grace and Cartier…

Their association dates back to the 1950s, when Hollywood actress Grace Kelly was preparing to marry Prince Rainier III, and continues to resonate seven decades later. That enduring connection was celebrated in New York, this weekend, with a special screening of High Society, the 1956 musical comedy in which Grace famously wore her spectacular Cartier diamond engagement ring.

Prince Rainier III initially presented Grace with a ruby-and-diamond engagement ring reflecting the red and white colours of Monaco. He subsequently commissioned a second ring from Cartier, featuring a magnificent 10.48 carat emerald-cut diamond flanked by two baguette diamonds. It was this extraordinary jewel that appeared on screen in High Society, Grace’s final film before retiring from acting to become Princess of Monaco.

This weekend’s New York screening, organised in partnership with the Princess Grace Foundation USA, the Embassy of Monaco in the United States and the Consulate General of Monaco in New York, offered an opportunity to revisit a remarkable chapter in both cinematic and royal history.

Seventy years after Grace Kelly’s marriage to Prince Rainier III, the film remains a reminder of an extraordinary transformation from Hollywood royalty to real-life princess. It also celebrates the enduring appeal of two icons; Princess Grace and Cartier, whose names have become synonymous with elegance, sophistication and timeless style.

The New York celebration also highlighted Princess Grace’s enduring cultural and humanitarian legacy, particularly her role in strengthening ties between Monaco and the United States. Seven decades later, her elegance and influence remain inseparable from the history of the Principality.
