Monaco-based drone delivery company FLYDE has secured a major name from the aviation industry, appointing former Etihad Airways chief executive James Hogan as strategic advisor and shareholder as it prepares to expand its operations across the Mediterranean…

Hogan, who led Etihad Airways from 2006 to 2017, has invested in the MonacoTech-incubated business through his private family office, Group Vanguard Holdings. During his tenure at the Abu Dhabi airline, he oversaw substantial international expansion, growing its fleet from 15 to more than 120 aircraft. His new role will focus on regulatory compliance, developing FLYDE’s delivery network and exploring opportunities beyond Europe, particularly in the Arabian Gulf.

Founded by Pierre Deyris, FLYDE specialises in delivering supplies directly to yachts and other vessels at anchor using drones. Operating from shore-based facilities, its aircraft lower packages onto vessels using a winch system, eliminating the need to land onboard. As previously reported by NEWS.MC, the company launched commercial flights from Port Gallice in Antibes on August 1, following four years of development and regulatory approvals from French and Monegasque aviation authorities.

FLYDE is now planning additional operating bases along the French Riviera in 2027, with ambitions to establish a wider Mediterranean delivery network. Deyris described Hogan’s arrival as an important turning point, highlighting the value of his aviation experience as the company moves into its next phase of growth. For Monaco’s emerging technology sector, the appointment brings international aviation expertise to a homegrown business seeking to transform maritime logistics.
