Production has begun on the fourth season of HBO’s acclaimed satire The White Lotus, with Monaco featuring prominently among a string of glamorous French Riviera filming locations.
HBO confirmed on Wednesday, April 15, that shooting is now under way, releasing an initial teaser on social media to mark the start of production, which you can watch here. The new season will unfold against the backdrop of the Cannes Film Festival, shifting the Emmy-winning series from tropical resorts to the glittering excess of the Côte d’Azur.
Alongside Monaco, filming is taking place in Cannes and Saint-Tropez, with additional scenes scheduled in Paris. Luxury hotels remain central to the show’s formula, and this season’s fictional White Lotus properties are being staged in some of the Riviera’s most prestigious venues, including Cannes’ Hôtel Martinez and Saint-Tropez’s Château de la Messardière.
True to form, the new instalment will follow a fresh ensemble of affluent guests and hotel staff whose intersecting lives spiral into scandal, intrigue and, inevitably, chaos over the course of a week.
The cast brings together a mix of British, American and French talent, including Helena Bonham Carter, Steve Coogan, Chris Messina and Kumail Nanjiani, joined by French stars Vincent Cassel, Laura Smet, Corentin Fila and Nadia Tereszkiewicz.
Preparations for the shoot had already been spotted along the Riviera in recent weeks, with extras reportedly being recruited in Saint-Tropez and several cast members seen arriving on the coast ahead of filming.
Monaco’s inclusion adds yet another high-profile screen credit to the Principality’s long association with international film and television productions — proof, if any were needed, that when it comes to cinematic glamour, Monte-Carlo still knows how to steal a scene.
