The Yacht Club de Monaco hosted a glittering evening of celebration at its annual YCM Awards – UBS Trophy ceremony on the evening of Wednesday, December 18, honouring exceptional achievements in sailing and maritime sports. Presided over by HSH Prince Albert II, the event recognised the extraordinary performances of its members while welcoming new talent into the fold.
The evening’s top honour, YCM Sailor of the Year, was awarded to British sailor Graeme Peterson, a standout competitor and World ClubSwan50 Vice-Champion. Expressing his joy and gratitude, Peterson said, “It is a real honour and source of great pride for my family and crew.”
In the youth sailing category, Océane Schroeder was celebrated for her victory in the girls’ division at the International Spring Cup in La Rochelle. The promising young sailor, filled with emotion, shared her ambition: “My goal is to win overall in regattas, not just in the girls’ category.”
The awards highlighted the Yacht Club’s thriving spirit and commitment to excellence, as members from diverse backgrounds were acknowledged for their dedication and achievements. Among them were HRH Prince Charles de Bourbon des Deux Siciles for his ninth win in the Smeralda 888 International Championship, and Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio, champion of the Monegasque J/70 Championship.
These successes reflect the Yacht Club’s mission to advance the art of yachting while fostering a sense of community and shared ambition. As HSH Prince Albert II remarked, “These sorts of challenges inspire us. They awaken in us an interest in new vocations and ambitions.”
As the curtain closed on the 2024 YCM Awards, the night underscored the Yacht Club de Monaco’s role as a hub of maritime excellence and innovation, where tradition meets the aspirations of a new generation of sailors.
