In a new alliance for ocean preservation, the Vendée Globe Foundation and the Prince Albert II Foundation (FPA2) formalised a partnership on Friday in Les Sables-d’Olonne. The agreement, signed by Vendée Globe Foundation President Gilles Sallé and FPA2 Vice President Olivier Wenden, will enhance efforts to protect marine ecosystems and support scientific advancements in ocean sustainability. A Vendée Globe skipper will participate in the FPA2’s Re.Generation program, aimed at developing young environmental leaders, as part of this commitment.
The partnership emphasises a shared mission: fostering collaboration between scientists and the public, driving innovation, and promoting awareness about the critical challenges facing oceans and natural resources. HSH Prince Albert, speaking at the event alongside Vendée Globe President Alain Leboeuf, expressed optimism for the impact of this collaboration, underscoring his commitment as a “concerned but determined defender” of the oceans. He highlighted the urgency of action, noting the oceans’ central role in global sustainability.
“This partnership’s core objectives are clear,” Prince Albert said, “expanding scientific knowledge, empowering future leaders committed to the environment, and inspiring millions through the Vendée Globe’s values of excellence and resilience.” He emphasised that environmental action should be seen as an aspirational pursuit rather than a concession, adding that this project aims to inspire a “positive and inclusive vision” for a sustainable world.
