Monaco participated as an observer in the 175th session of the Council of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) from Monday, June 10 until Friday, June 14.
This session facilitated in-depth discussions on crucial issues arising from the multiplication of global crises and conflicts, providing an opportunity to examine various governance matters.
A significant highlight was the adoption by consensus of a decision regarding the situation in Gaza, where ongoing conflict and access restrictions have caused severe destruction to the agricultural sector and heightened food insecurity. The decision, which welcomed the ‘Food For Gaza’ initiative led by the Italian Government in collaboration with FAO and the World Food Program, provides specific guidance for the FAO to continue its technical assistance and prepare for reconstruction efforts.
Additionally, the Council adopted a decision on the impact of the war in Ukraine, urging FAO to maintain its actions in the country and cooperate with bodies responsible for the Damage Register for Ukraine, providing information on the damage inflicted on the Ukrainian agricultural sector.
During the session, the Principality aligned itself with several European Union declarations concerning the global situation of food and agriculture.
