Ms. Alyson Calem-Sangiorgio, Second Secretary at the Permanent Mission of the Principality of Monaco to the United Nations in New York, participated in the 17th session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (COSP17), which was held from Tuesday, June 11 to Thursday, June 13, under the theme of the inclusion of disability in the current international situation and in the run-up to the Future Summit.
Citing the actions of this policy that has already been implemented in the Principality to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities, Calem-Sangiorgio added that rethinking the inclusion of disabilities, visible and invisible, required raising awareness among populations, communicating and to accompany. She presented the national plan for Monegasque inclusion titled ‘Handipact’, launched in 2023 on the initiative of the Prince’s Government, which mobilises all Monegasque stakeholders, public and private, to improve accessibility, reception and inclusion of people affected by all forms of disability.
Finally, 9 members of the Committee for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities were elected during this session, including, for the first time, a candidate from the European Union, Ms. Inmaculada Placencia Porrero.
