Monaco-born Olivier Boscagli won the Dutch championship title on Sunday, May 5 with PSV Eindhoven.

Despite his birthplace, the central defender is of French nationality, and has been playing at the top-flight Eredivisie side since the summer of 2019. Boscagli went to school in the Principality, and had a season ticket for AS Monaco as a child, but went on to train at neighbouring OGC Nice.

Boscagli scored the decisive and rather acrobatic third goal in PSV’s championship clinching match against Sparta Rotterdam, after scoring an own goal in the first half. The defender had already previously bagged three goals in this successful 2023/24 season, an impressive number of a player in his position, including a goal in the crucial away match against defending champion Feyenoord.

PSV has become champion of the Netherlands for the 25th time, and is now the club with the most championship titles in the Eredivisie in the last 50 years. The Dutch club won the European Cup, the predecessor of the UEFA Champions League, in 1988.

Last season, Monaco was eliminated in the preliminary round of the Champions League by PSV. This time, both clubs may meet again on the biggest stage of European football, as Monaco have already qualified for tournament with a win against Clermont at the Stade Louis II on Saturday, May 4.
