An emergency worker for the Escota highway agency has been killed on the rain-sodden A8 autoroute near La Turbie. The highway was closed in both directions following the incident early on Sunday afternoon.
The victim was attending a breakdown when he was hit by a second car. Six other people were injured, three seriously.
According to witnesses, the victim was working alongside highway police on a car on the hard shoulder when the fatal collision occurred. The driver of the second vehicle was described as ‘shocked but unhurt.’
