The Chinese New Year, which this year takes place under the sign of the Wooden Dragon, will begin on February 10, 2024.
To mark the event, the Monaco-China Association held an “Evening of the Dragon” on January 29, 2024 at the Fairmont Hotel, with the support of Monaco’s Embassy in China,
A symbol of strength and luck in Chinese astrology, the Wooden Dragon predicts that 2024 will be a dynamic year, a guarantee of abundance, success and prosperity! The evening, mixing Chinese culture and Mediterranean gastronomy, brought together Monegasque and Chinese guests from the diplomatic, economic and cultural worlds.
Among those present were the Director of the Cabinet of HSH Prince Albert II, Mr Christophe Steiner, the Ambassador of Monaco to China, HE Mrs Marie-Pascale Boisson, the Consul General of China in Marseille, Mr Dong Guangli, the Director of Diplomatic and Consular Relations, Ms Marie-Catherine Caruso-Ravera, representing Monaco’s Minister of External Relations and Cooperation, as well as the Director General of the Monaco Economic Board, Mr Guillaume Rose.
The Tianjin Theater and Opera Troupe performed traditional music and dances.
Many aspects of Chinese culture also punctuated the evening with Lion dancing, tai chi demonstrations, Chinese calligraphy, a guzhen concert (traditional Chinese music) and even more contemporary Chinese variety songs.
All in all it the evening was a festive and friendly way to maintain relations between Monaco and China.
