A man has been found dead from a gunshot wound at the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel, with investigators increasingly favouring the possibility of suicide following an overnight police operation…

According to Monaco-Matin, emergency services were called to the hotel on Avenue Princesse-Grace at approximately 02:15 on Wednesday, November 4, after a woman sharing the man’s room alerted reception.

Firefighters, police officers and medical personnel attended the scene, but the man could not be saved. Both individuals are understood to be French nationals and reportedly in a relationship.

An investigation was initially opened on suspicion of murder, with the woman taken into police custody for questioning. Forensic officers subsequently discovered two handguns in the room, one of which had reportedly been discharged.

Monaco’s Attorney General, Stéphane Thibault, told Monaco-Matin that initial findings pointed towards suicide, although further examinations and interviews remain necessary to establish the circumstances.

Société des Bains de Mer, which operates the hotel, confirmed the death but referred further enquiries to the judicial authorities.

The investigation remains ongoing, with no definitive conclusion announced.
