Following a flurry of standout performances since the start of the 2023/24 season, AS Monaco midfielder Aleksandr Golovin has been elected to be the club’s Most Valuable Player of the first half of the season.

Golovin claimed 76 percent of fan votes on the AS Monaco App, trumping team captain Wissam Ben Yedder and Takumi Minamino with 15 percent and 3 percent of votes respectably.

It comes as no surprise that Golovin has endeared himself to supporters of the Principality side so well, as the Russian international has scored five times and assisted twice while otherwise consistently contributing to a reasonably successful first leg that saw Monaco end 2023 in third place in the Ligue 1 table.

Two exceptional goals have only served to further Golovin’s fan favourite status, a clinically curled shot against Brest and the explosive strike into the top corner from 25 metres out against Metz that you can see below:

Despite his strong individual performances, Golovin remains humble, having modestly explained himself in a recent press conference that “when the team plays well, it makes sense that I am in the best conditions to perform. We have played a lot of good matches this season, we are very good offensively. So this is one of the reasons why I have good statistics.”

Golovin’s success has not gone unnoticed beyond the walls of the Stade Louis II, as he finds himself in another team at the end of the calendar year, L’Equipe’s 2023 Team of the Year.

Golovin was joined by fellow Monaco players Youssouf Fofana and Caio Henrique in this star studded Ligue 1 Team of the Year, which also features former Monaco sensation Kylian Mbappe at the front for the second year straight.

The Monegasques have returned to training ahead of the club’s first match of 2024, which will see the Principality side take on Lens away in the Coupe de France Round of 64 on Sunday, January 7.
