Despite a strong team performance in Germany, AS Monaco bowed out to back-to-back Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich on Monday, August 7.

Monaco’s Takumi Minamino opened the scoring with a low shot into the back of the net at the 29th minute. However, Bayern’s Konrad Laimer levelled the scoreline just three minutes later. The Bundesliga giant’s golden boy, Jamal Musiala made matters worse for the Monegasques with another goal at the 42nd minute, while Serge Gnabry topped the first half off in its injury time with a successfully converted penalty.

With his side down 3-1, Monaco captain Wissam Ben Yedder got one back at the 64th minute, successfully converting a penalty of his own as he has done so many times before in red and white.

Thomas Tuchel’s men were able to retaliate once more, this time through Leroy Sané, and only four minutes later to extend their lead to 4-2.

The scoreline did not change again as the intensity of the game fizzled out until the full time whistle, which marked an honourable defeat in Monaco’s last game of the preseason, before the 2023/24 Ligue 1 season kicks off with a trip to Clermont on Sunday, August 13.
