The inaugural Glam Foot tournament did not disappoint, as world-famous footballers returned to the Principality to put their professional skills to the test in a five-a-side football tournament in the name of multiple charities on Tuesday, June 27.
Among the returning famous faces was Manchester United striker Anthony Martial, who was unable to compete in the tournament himself due to a season-concluding injury, but was nevertheless present to represent the Glam Foot association at the Espace Saint-Antoine, metres away from where he used to play for AS Monaco as a talented teenager.
The Barbagiuans and their president Louis Ducruet were also present, and very competitive as the tournament kicked off. Despite the best efforts of Prince Albert’s nephew and team, the Barbagiuans finished the day in third place behind team JPK in second place which featured Tiemoue Bakayoko and Eric Bailly, and represented JPK Healthcare.
The victors of the first ever Glam Foot tournament were team Anthony Martial, representing the Glam Foot association. Speaking about the success of the tournament, Martial said “I’m really happy with this first edition, which was friendly and family- oriented. What’s more, my team won, so I’m delighted! I can’t wait to come back next year and see this great event continue to grow.”
Meanwhile, Ducruet praised the event; “I’m delighted with the commitment shown by all the participants. This Glam Foot is a success and I have the feeling that everyone enjoyed being together. This concept has great potential and should certainly be revived next year, at a date that will make it easier to attract a large audience.”
A successful first Glam Foot tournament and certainly not the last.
