A 38 year-old Italian motorcyclist has appeared in court in Monaco following an incident last year in which his skidding motorcycle hit a woman traversing the road at a pedestrian crossing.
The victim suffered serious injuries with multiple facial fractures and after-effects to existing conditions in her knees and wrists, local French-language daily Monaco Matin reported.
The motorcyclist didn’t dispute the facts of the case, saying he was driving with his girlfriend at a normal speed, he braked but the road was wet and he skidded into the victim. He was also taken to Princess Grace Hospital together with his pillion passenger.
Prosecuting counsel demanded a fine of 2,000 euros and a ban on driving in Monaco for six months. However, bearing in mind the defendant’s need for his own transport to get to work as a chef in the Principality, he escaped a ban. He was fined 1,000 euros, suspended, and must pay the victim 3,500 euros in damages.
