Monaco’s own Charles Leclerc got his home Grand Prix experience off to an ideal start, as the Ferrari driver managed to etch out the fastest lap time on his local streets in Free Practice 1 on Friday, May 27.
Leclerc’s fastest lap time stood at 1:14.531, with the second fastest driver on the day being Red Bull’s Sergio Perez with a lap time of 1:14.570, a fractional difference.
Leclerc’s Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz came in third, just under a tenth of a second slower than the Monegasque with a time of 1:14.601.
Completing the pace pattern was Red Bull’s Max Verstappen with the fourth fastest lap of FP1, who’s best time stood at 1:14.712.
Meanwhile, Mercedes had a practice session to forget, with George Russell setting the eighth-fastest lap time and Lewis Hamilton managing to finish with the tenth-fastest lap time on the day.
The all-important qualifying session will take place on Saturday, May 28, while the race will begin at 15:00 on Sunday, May 29.
