Galanta’s dances are to Kodaly what Hungarian dances are to Brahms: lively, deep and passionate music emerging from his own memories. Galanta is the village where he spent his childhood. He experienced his first musical emotions there with a young gypsy friend for whom music punctuates the joys and sorrows of life. Recorder and record player in hand, Kodaly, who has become a composer, decides to go in search of the gypsy soul and to do this surveys the Hungarian lands.
