Work is underway to beautify the lower entrance to Beausoleil where the French commune and the Principality lie on either side of the blvd. du Général Leclerc.

Trees will be planted and a statue of Simone Veil installed. Beausoleil’s long-time mayor, Gérard Spinelli, said that Simone Veil’s commitment to a Europe of diversity is very fitting. “Diversity corresponds perfectly to the daily life of the inhabitants of Beausoleil,” he said.

The mayor said that it is his personal wish to limit the number of vehicles in Beausoleil and he would like to pedestrianise the city centre as much as possible. A four-year programme to install 12 escalators is about to finish and there are plans to install a further 13.

Beausoleil’s cheek by jowl proximity to Monaco means that many residents of the Principality frequent its marketplace and shops, while 80 percent of the population of the town work in Monaco.

The newly upgraded area is due to be inaugurated before the end of this summer.
