The Monaco Government issued a press statement on Thursday evening confirming that a recourse to a lockdown in the Principality is a step that the authorities are “keen to avoid at all costs.”

However, there is a concern that the wearing of masks in public is not being adhered to “sufficiently.”

As a result, the Police Service has been instructed to carry out more systematic checks, and, if necessary, issue fines.

“Faced with the health crisis, the Prince’s Government, in consultation with the National Council, is committed to guaranteeing the greatest possible health security while supporting all the economic players affected by the crisis. It will continue to act in this regard.”

Last week the Government imposed a nightly curfew from 20:00 but made an exception for those attending cultural events as well as diners. Restaurants must stop serving at 21:30 and the later curfew deadline is 22:00. Diners are issued an ‘attestation’ by the restaurant while theatre-goers may be asked to produce their tickets as they make their way home.
