His Serene Highness Prince Albert II travelled to the Alpes-Maritimes hinterland on September 21 for visits to Aiglun and Puget-Théniers, two communities with historic connections to the Princely Family and Monaco…
In Aiglun, the Sovereign visited the remarkable troglodyte fortress known as the Château d’Aiglun, a historic site built into the rock. Prince Albert II has supported efforts to restore and preserve the site, helping to ensure that this unusual part of the region’s heritage can be protected and presented to future generations.
His visit continued with an official ceremony in front of Aiglun’s town hall, providing an opportunity to meet local representatives and residents and celebrate the longstanding relationship between the community and the Principality.
HSH Prince Albert II then travelled to Puget-Théniers, where he visited the sports complex that now bears his name. The Sovereign greeted members of the local population before exploring more of the town’s heritage, including a visit to the Church of Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption.
The two stops formed part of the Prince’s continuing interest in communities historically connected to the Grimaldi family, whilst also highlighting efforts to preserve their architectural and cultural heritage and maintain the longstanding ties between Monaco and its neighbouring French territories.
