According to Monaco Matin, the incident occurred at around 7:30am when a 21-year-old man riding a scooter struck a 63-year-old woman. Emergency services responded quickly, with Monaco firefighters transporting both casualties to the Princess Grace Hospital Centre (CHPG) for treatment.
It is understood that rider sustained facial injuries, while the woman suffered trauma to her hip and leg. Neither is believed to have sustained life-threatening injuries.
The accident prompted Public Security officers to temporarily close the expressway in the direction of Menton while emergency services treated the injured and the scene was secured. Traffic resumed once the vehicles had been cleared and the initial investigation completed.
Police have opened an investigation to establish exactly how the collision occurred. As reported by Monaco Matin, investigators will examine the circumstances leading up to the accident, determine the respective responsibilities of those involved and carry out routine checks, including whether the scooter rider was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision.
