The incident occurred on Thursday, June 18, near the Carmes parking area. According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, an Italian man in his thirties was riding a scooter when he was struck by a car driven by a French national employed in the Principality.
Emergency services, including Monaco firefighters and paramedics, responded quickly to the scene. The victim suffered an open fracture to his leg and was transported to the Princess Grace Hospital Centre (CHPG) for treatment. The accident led to the temporary closure of one of Monaco’s busiest roads while emergency crews assisted the injured man and investigators examined the scene.
Authorities confirmed that the driver, a man in his forties, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision. He was immediately taken into custody by officers from the Public Security Department, where he remained last night.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into aggravated involuntary bodily harm involving alcohol. Investigators are now working to establish the precise circumstances of the crash and determine any further legal consequences.
