In an exclusive interview with Monaco Info during an official visit to the Principality, Interpol president Lucas Philippe highlighted Monaco’s increasingly important role in international police cooperation amid rising global security challenges…
Lucas Philippe, the Interpol chief reflected on Monaco’s historic connection to the organisation, recalling that HSH Prince Albert I played a pioneering role in 1914 by bringing together police chiefs from around the world to encourage cross-border cooperation and information sharing, foundations that would later lead to the creation of Interpol.
The visit included meetings with His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, Minister of State Christophe Mirmand and senior representatives of Monaco’s Public Security Directorate. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in areas including cybercrime, organised crime, financial crime and artificial intelligence.
Interpol’s president praised Monaco’s active participation within the organisation, notably its deployment of new AI-assisted tools designed to improve and partially automate international data exchanges. He also confirmed Monaco’s involvement in Interpol’s Global Academy programme based in Singapore.
The interview also addressed the growing complexity of modern criminal networks, particularly online fraud, cryptocurrency-related crime and international trafficking. Despite geopolitical tensions, the Interpol president stressed that the organisation’s neutrality allows its 196 member states to continue sharing intelligence and coordinating operations worldwide.
