The Port of Marseille Fos has officially joined the SEA Index network, a flagship initiative led by the Yacht Club of Monaco aimed at reducing the environmental impact of yachting…

Launched in 2020, the SEA Index is designed to measure the carbon footprint of pleasure yachts and encourage owners to adopt more sustainable practices. By integrating this system, Marseille Fos aligns itself with a growing network of ports committed to tackling key environmental challenges across the maritime sector.

Mediterranean ports are increasingly on the front line when it comes to issues such as pollution, biodiversity protection and waste management. In this context, collaboration between major players is seen as essential to accelerating meaningful change. The inclusion of Marseille Fos reflects both recognition of the index’s effectiveness and a shared ambition to move beyond awareness towards concrete action.

The SEA Index not only provides a framework for measuring environmental performance but also ensures that commitments are monitored and verified over time. For ports, it offers a way to balance economic development with environmental responsibility while maintaining transparency.

With around twenty ports already participating—spanning the Mediterranean, Caribbean and Seychelles—the network continues to expand, reinforcing Monaco’s role as a leader in promoting a more sustainable future for global yachting.
