Monaco’s Princely Government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting traders at the Fontvieille Shopping Centre following a demonstration highlighting concerns over the site’s future redevelopment…

Authorities said they were paying close attention to the situation and acknowledged the worries expressed by retailers regarding visibility and continuity as the long-planned restructuring project moves forward.

The commercial centre has been the subject of a redevelopment programme for several years, with discussions ongoing between the Government and the operator responsible for the project to determine the most appropriate direction. Officials emphasised that the objective remains to modernise the site while maintaining a balanced approach that takes into account both urban development and the needs of the existing commercial community.

An individual support framework has already been presented to shopkeepers, including those who have temporarily halted their activity and those wishing to continue operating until construction begins. The Government said this tailored assistance aims to provide practical solutions and reassurance during the transition period.

After being informed of the gathering organised by traders, the Minister of State proposed a direct meeting with representatives to address concerns and maintain open communication. The Government confirmed that dialogue would continue with the executive committee of the centre’s business association as well as with all retailers affected.

Officials stressed their intention to pursue constructive discussions in order to define the best possible outcomes for businesses and employees while advancing the transformation of the Fontvieille commercial district.
