The Princess Grace Irish Library reports a full house for a recent talk by Books Editor of the Irish Times Martin Doyle…

Library Director Paula Farquharson said so many nationalities were represented in the very appreciative audience, who agreed they had a lot of catching up to do with their reading as Martin recounted his insights into the many great writers he has interviewed over the years.

Martin also spoke about his own book, Dirty Linen, a personal and intimate history of the Troubles in Northern Ireland seen through the microcosm of a single rural parish, the author’s own hometown in County Down. Members of the audience commented that his account was so powerful and humane.

The Library is not resting on its laurels. Later in October, the illustrious guest speaker will be Patrick Downes, who will offer a unique opportunity to explore the global imprint of the Irish diaspora through the lens of honour, conflict, and memory.  Watch this space.
