Renowned American photographer Annie Leibovitz has opened her first Monaco exhibition at Galerie Hauser & Wirth Monte Carlo…
Titled Stream of Consciousness, the show offers a poetic and intimate journey through her recent work, presenting a series of photographs curated not by theme or chronology, but through free, emotional associations that invite visitors directly into her creative mind.
Famed for her iconic portraits of artists, politicians, and cultural icons, Leibovitz began her career photographing the Rolling Stones before becoming a defining contributor to Vogue and Vanity Fair. This exhibition features powerful portraits, striking landscapes, and scenes of everyday life, including images such as singer Billie Eilish and the house of painter Georgia O’Keeffe. Each photograph resonates with universal emotion, blurring the lines between the monumental and the deeply personal.
What makes Stream of Consciousness especially unique is its insight into Leibovitz’s artistic process. As the gallery team explained, visitors are offered rare access to how she builds her books and retrospectives, starting by filling entire walls with selected images before meticulously narrowing them down to tell a cohesive visual story. “She lets us into her thoughts,” they said, revealing the privilege of understanding how one of photography’s greatest talents thinks and creates.
Recently inducted into the prestigious Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Annie Leibovitz continues to shape contemporary photography with her evocative, thought-provoking work. Her exhibition runs until 27 September at Hauser & Wirth, offering Monaco art lovers a rare chance to engage deeply with her unique vision of the world.
